Founder &
Executive Director
Walter Ybarbo III, a U.S. Marine Corps combat veteran, brings over 8 years of military experience to lead Camp V.O.W.’s mission supporting veterans. As a Gulf War combat veteran who faced severe PTSD himself after service, Walter deeply understands the pressing yet often overlooked needs facing veterans from all wars.
Origins Story
Walter founded Camp V.O.W. to uplift and support fellow veterans, using his recovery journey as inspiration. Through leading peer support groups at his Kansas nutrition store, Walter witnessed many veterans falling through gaps in care and community.
Establishing Camp V.O.W as a nonprofit, Walter set forth to serve veterans through programs promoting purpose, whole health, camaraderie, and civilian transition. A passionate advocate, Walter co-designs offerings meeting urgent needs while cultivating confidence in one’s potential.
Director Philosophy
As Executive Director, Walter oversees strategic vision, culture, and daily operations at Camp V.O.W. His leadership philosophy emphasizes judgment-free support and empowerment over enablement.
Walter models servant leadership, volunteering actively outside his director role. He currently owns and runs a nutrition store in Kansas. Through operating his store, Walter enjoys meeting new people and giving back to the local community. Walter applies his Christian faith in practical service, believing that to lead is to serve.
